1989: Sam Storey widely outpointed Londoner Tony Burke to win the British super middleweight title at the Ulster Hall. With the comprehensive win the Belfast man became the first ever holder of the newly inaugurated 168lbs Lord Lonsdale belt, a crown he would hold on two separate occasions.

1913: Cork’s Packy Mahoney forced Dan Voyles into a sixteenth round retirement at the National Sporting Club in London’s Covent Garden to win the vacant Irish heavyweight title.
