Date and Venue change for Ulster Elite Senior Championships Finals

There has been a change of date and venue for the upcoming Ulster Elite Senior Championships.

Initially set to take place in February, the tournament was scrapped as it was unattractively sandwiched in between the National U22 and National Elite Senior Championships.

Earlier this month the provisional dates for the tournament were announced as being a weigh-in on Sunday November 4th, preliminaries on Tuesday the 7th and semi finals on Thursday the 9th – with the big finals on Friday the 10th. This was all to take place at the Dockers Club in Belfast.

However, today it has been confirmed that there has been a change of date and venue for the finals, which will now take place at the Devenish Complex in West Belfast on Thursday November 16th.

The prelims and semis will STILL take place at the Dockers.

The move affords finalists more time to recover from their semi-finals,, however the fact that they will now be on a Thursday may make it more awkward for fans to attend.

Results in the tournament will factor into the selection of the Northern Ireland team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. The Games in Australia take place from April 4th to 15th.

Male and female fighters will compete at the Ulsters across the 20 current weights classes. The situation for the Commonwealths however is somewhat unclear.
