Consistency is key for “hot and cold” Gearóid Clancy

Gearóid Clancy [8(2)-5(0)] is involved in his seventh title fight tomorrow morning.

With three wins and three losses previously, the Australia-based Oughterard fighter is looking to tip the scales in his favour and finally start building some winning momentum in his pro boxing career.

Now up at light welterweight, Clancy aims to become a two-weight New South Wales champion when he takes on Sam Williams [5(0)-5(3)-3] at the Star Casino in Sydney.

Part of an Irish-heavy undercard for Darragh Foley’s WBA light welterweight world title eliminator versus Steven Wilcox, Clancy features alongside John Hutchinson and Danny Keating.

‘The Galway Assassin’ is in high spirits ahead of what he feels is a fresh start.

“It’s all going to plan,” he told T2T Boxing.

“There’s a good atmosphere around the place, we’re all pushing each other on, there’s a good vibe in the gym.”

“Fighting in the Casino on Paddy’s Day, you can’t beat it. It’s about getting off to a good start.”

The 33-year-old admits that he has had an up-and-down career results-wise but is confident this weekend can be the start of a good spell.

The Tony Del Vecchio-trained Clancy outlined how “I’ve been very hot and cold. Two wins, one loss, one win, one loss.”

“I want to get a bit of rhythm going and be more hot than cold, that’s the plan.”

“I kick the year off with Sam Williams, I’m not overlooking him, he’ll be tough. I want to impress myself, get a good convincing win, and get the year rolling and have a good start.”
