Clancy wins New South Wales title and makes history

Oughterard native Gearoid Clancy won the New South Wales title on Saturday the 4th of July in the Punchbowl Arena in Sydney.

The Oz based lightweight claimed a shut out victory, winning every round against the experienced John Min.

Min (7-11) might not have came into the clash with a winning record, but had more wins than Clancy (4-1) had fights and is a respected operator.

The Westerner tried to get his foe out early and had Min on the canvas in round 2, but Australian rose to his feet and managed to survive to see the final bell.

As a result Clancy claimed a points win and made history by becoming the first ever boxer from 50 year old Oughterard Boxing club to win a professional title.

Clancy will be eyeing up a defence or two before pushing for an Australian title in the not too distant future.
