Bates plans to impress his way onto the big shows

WHILE a host of Dublin fighters get to strut their stuff for the Sky camera’s at the 3Arena next month Ciaran Bates is fighting in a small hall show in Downpatrick this coming Saturday.

However, the novice light welterweight believes it won’t be long before he is showing his wares on the big stage.

Bates, who Lewis O’Mara on Saturday night believes if he keeps impressing he will work his way on to bigger cards.

“I would like to get on some of the big shows and I have no doubt I will. I  just need to keep winning and winning well and that is the plan for Saturday. I’m confident I will be on the big stage very soon,” the 28 year old told Irish-boxing.com.

Bates has done all he can to catch the eye since turning pro stopping the similarly looking named Mihaly Szalontai and Miklos Szilagyi in similar fashion.

However, after registering two first round knock outs the Dubliner is expecting  to hit four rounds at the Downpatrick Cricket club on Saturday.

“I’m expecting a good test Saturday. He is a south paw and that comes to win by all accounts.  I am expecting to go the distance this time, but we will just have to see if the knock out comes. If the chance to take him out arises I will take it,” he added before discussing his pre fight preparations.

“Camp for this fight has been great. I have been training in my old amateur gym St Marys with Noel Burke. The start to my pro career has been great. I have learnt alot about the pro game, especially from sparing top lads like Ormand and Pajo (Patrick Hyland).”
