Anto Cacace – “I don’t think Martin J Ward wants to fight me”

Anthony Cacace [15(7)-0] believes he is ready for British champion Martin J Ward right now.

After believing he was next in line, ‘The Apache’ now knows he will have to wait his turn and allow mandatory challenger Maxi Hughes a shot first.

The Belfast super featherweight may now have to wait until the early Summer for his tilt, a move that was intially sold as good as it gave him the chance to get more rounds in.

However, after watching Ward get up off the floor to outpoint Ronnie Clark, a fighter Cacace has stopped, the Pat Magee-managed puncher believes he is more than ready for the champ now. Whether or not the champion is keen is another thing, and the BBBoC Celtic champion feels he is being avoided – although he knows his day will come.

“I didn’t go to London for the Ward Clark fight but I seen enough of it,” Cacace told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I’m ready anytime, but I don’t think Martin J Ward wants to fight me. But he can only avoid me for so long,” the Andersonstown man added before reflecting on his last victory, a six-round points win over Nicaraguan Leonel Hernandez.

“I boxed well last week, it was great to get 6 rounds under my belt.”
