Another Irish fighter joins the IBA

Another Irish boxer has linked up with the rapidly-growing Immanuel Boxing Academy in West Belfast.

The newly-formed Glen Road outfit, ran by former pros Ray Ginley and Dee Walsh, has become one of the biggest gyms in Ireland in just a few short months.

The latest man to join the team is light middleweight Sonny Upton [12(5)-3(1)].

The middle Upton brother follows younger sibling Anto back home across the water to link up with the IBA.

Upton had been trained by Barry Smith and Harry Andrews at the West Ham Boxing Club in London whom he had joined up with following his departure from Ricky Hatton.

The 27 year old fought once under this banner, losing a controversial majority decision in a short-notice English title fight with Matthew Ryan in Manchester.

Alongside the Uptons, the Immanuel Boxing Academy is also home to Lewis Crocker, Anto Cacace, Ger Healy, Joe Hillerby, Mathew Fitzsimons, Conor Cooke, Mark Morris, and Padraig McCrory.
