Andy Lee: Saunders knows that I will beat him
It’s starting to heat up!
WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee believes that challenger Billy Joe Saunders already knows that the Limerick man will beat him when the two fight in Thomond Park on September 19th.
Chatting to Second Captains, Lee was in a confident mood ahead of the highly-anticipated bout. He spoke in detail about the flaws he sees in the undefeated character.
On Saunders’s personality, Lee noted the Englishman’s outrageous comments on women’s boxing as well as Chris Eubank Jr., describing him as “a nasty character in a lot of ways and I’m gonna teach him a lesson in humility when we get in the ring.”
Specifically talking about Saunders’s infamous opinions on women’s boxing, Lee reasoned that “He’s a silly boy. I think it was a bit tongue-in-cheek. But as a sportsperson in this day and age you can’t say anything like that – as a person you can’t say anything like that in this world nowadays, you just can’t say those sort of things.”
Lee was then asked about Hertfordshire stylist’s feelings towards middleweight king, Gennady Golovkin. Saunders has previously said that he would steer clear of the Kazakh destroyer as he would have no chance of defeating him.
Lee responded in bullish fashion, claiming that “If I’m being honest, I think why he’s being so humble in these press conferences with me and when he’s talking about me, is because he knows that I am going to beat him/”
“I think that’s why he was happy to come to Limerick, because it’s away from his home, he won’t feel like it’s such a loss when it’s away – it gives him an out, he can say he fought a great champion in his home town blah blah blah.”
