Allan Phelan scores impressive comeback win

Kildare super feather Allan Phelan made his long-awaited ring return, and Irish debut, tonight in Dublin.

Phelan, formerly based in New York, had not fought in 27 months and made a winning return on the Red Corner ‘Unfinished Business’ bill at the National Stadium.

The Newbridge 25 year old took on Nicaraguan Johnson Tellez in what was quite a strong comeback fight and boxed his way to an impressive win.

The new Celtic Warriors Gym man began sharply, boxing off the jab and throwing in plenty of lead hooks.

Phelan continued to stay composed in the second, staying well clear of Tellez’s wild swings.

A more competitive thid saw Tellez begin to find a home for his shots, but the lilywhite was still in control

The final round saw the Central American pour on the pressure and attempt to drag Phelan into a war, but the Irishman would not oblige and moved his way to the win.

A competitive fight, there were no doubts about the result, with the referee’s card reading 40:36 in favour of Phelan.

Phelan’s record now finally has another name on it, and now reads 7(4)-2(1)-1. Tellez’s record drops to 9(6)-32(10)-5
