John Hutchinson describes his weird and wonderful Thai debut win

John Hutchinson [8(2)-2(0)-1] is up and running in Thailand following a knockout win last Wednesday.

The fight in Bangkok was an experience like no other for the Donegal light middle, who would score a first round knockout to get his South East Asian adventure off to the best possible start.

Hurting his Thai opponent early, the fight would be stopped in the corner following the conclusion of the opening stanza as Hutchinson blew off the cobwebs in emphatic fashion.

The atmosphere at the televised afternoon show was a new one for Hutchinson, who explained to Irish-Boxing.com that “fighting here compared to Europe or Boston is just totally different in the way things go about being done. It’s all singing and the great culture these people have makes its quite a fun day really.”

“It’s a totally different feeling to the electric atmosphere that can be at home on night shows! It’s adventurous and seems like a great day out for all the local people and I hoped I help made it a  great day out for them. I had some great support from the local Thai people, they really welcomed me in over here!”

“It was great experience! I’m not sure if there’s been an Irish fighter fighting in Thailand before.”

While the atmosphere was jovial, Hutchinson was presented with a real worry when he arrived to the venue, with a late change of opponent and no information on his new foe being provided.

The Buncrana Banger described how “with different language and the way they go about things, I’m going have to learn the language. You turn up to a show and you see a different fighter from the pictures – alarm bells do start to ring, and nobody had any info on him or couldn’t speak any English to me so I didn’t even know his name.”

“All things go through your mind, I just had to keep switched on and focused. I knew the engine was great as I’ve been doing some class work at Unit 27 conditioning gym since I’ve landed. I felt great and strong in there and just knew after the first shot landed and put him on ass – even though the ref didn’t count it – I just knew it only be a matter of time.”

Now up and running, the MTK fighter is looking forward to being kept active, and Hutchinson outlined how “I’m being kept busy now, was just shaking some rust off in this fight. Some big things lined up that will be announced soon. It’s one fight at time but that’s what I want this year, keep busy and keep building.”

“I also want to thank all my sponsors, Unit 27, Mohally’s Irish Bar, Fighters Gym, and all that made the trip from Phuket and made it a great day all round.”
