As expected, IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton has laughed off talk of a two fight deal with Scott Quigg. On Monday, the Englishman’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, claimed on Talksport Radio that having two fights between the pair, one in Manchester then one in Belfast, “could smooth negotiations.”

Frampton, however, rebutted this proposal on Talksport the following day, believing that he would beat Quigg so comprehensively that a rematch would be unnecessary. The Tiger’s Bay man elaborated that “I don’t even think we need to come to Belfast after that because I’m confident I’m going to win that fight, so what’s the point in a re-match? I want to move on to bigger and better things after him.”

On the negotiations, Frampton revealed that “no one has started talking yet but hopefully we can sit down and get it sorted. I’m very keen on the Scott Quigg fight and I’m happy to go to Manchester to fight him.”

‘The Jackal’ then joked “I’m happy to go to Manchester because I know I would take half of Northern Ireland with me!”

The Belfast man wants to organise the fight in a traditional and civilised manner, stating that “I don’t want any of these publicity stunts with cheques and stuff like that. If we get around a table and talk I think the fight can be made.”

“Things need to be fair. It’s important for us to be able to see everything that’s going on behind the scenes, what’s coming in, what’s going out.”

“We want to be able to get some of our fighters on the bill, some of the guys I train with all the time. So there are things that need to be talked about but I believe the fight can be made.”

“Let’s be sensible and get the fight on. No publicity stunts. We don’t need to be all over social media. Let’s talk about it and get it done.”
