Keeler: Moffett test will help me grab the Sky Sports spotlight

LUKE Keeler claims it would take someone ‘special’ to beat him on what could prove a special night his young career, thus he isn’t concerned about  fighting a puncher some deem high risk low reward.

Indeed, the undefeated middleweight prospect all but demanded a fight with tough Down puncher Paul Moffett on the big Matchroom promoted, Sky Sports broadcast Matthew Macklin card, set for Dublin on August 30.

‘Cool Hand Luke’ wants to make the most of his first appearance on a major card and was adamant he didn’t want a ‘gimme’ win at the National Stadium. Moffett, who many believe beat former European Champion Kerry Hope last time out not only brings guts, power and credibility to the ring, according to Keeler he will also provide him with the chance to showcase the full array of his talents.

The ticket selling Ballyfermott native is confident he will be involved in an Irish derby that will force the wider boxing family to sit up and take note.

“Of course this fight is a risk but it’s one I’m sure will pay off. I have never felt in better condition and I’m sure come August 30th it will take someone really special to beat me,” said Keeler.

“It’s a huge opportunity to be fighting on Skysports and I need someone willing to stand and fight for me to show my best and Moffett will provide that test.

“We’re both hungry fighters coming to win and desperate for the opportunity to advance our careers that Sky Sports brings, so has ingredients along with Spike and Fitzy to be fight of the night.”

So eager is Moffett to shine in the Sky Sports spotlight he has given up work to train full time for the August 30 clash.

Keeler, who has been earning rave reviews from Celtic Warrior Gym mates Gary O’Sullivan, Stephen Ormond and Ian Tims of late, on the other hand see’s this fight as his chance to get out of his waste management job and concentrate on laying waste to opponents.

Indeed, his summer holidays this year will be spent in the Costa De Celtic Warrior Gym in preparation for the biggest test and fight of his career. Keeler is determined to ensure he takes the opportunity to propel his career forward and will train full time in August to ensure he is ready to impress Sky Sports, their viewers and indeed Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn.

“A win can propel my career forward substantially,”he added.

“I can become a full time professional if I beat Moffett. At the moment I’m still working full time but after this fight I plan on being in position to train full time which is a dream come true. Not to mention it will give me the chance to improve further. I have the month of August off work to prepare and rest properly in between sessions, so will be in shape of my life for this fight mentally and physically.”
