‘I’ll prove I deserve to be there’ – Kelly targets comeback after Cairns defeat

Senan Kelly vowed to come back stronger and show that he deserves to be dining at the top table.

The Kidlare native was handed the kind of opportunity he had been calling for by way of a Steven Cairns fight on Queensberry’s August 1 3Arena card.

The JB Promotions man feels it was an opportunity he didn’t make the most of as he suffered a second career reverse at the gloves of the Cork man.

Speaking online for the first time since he suffered the reverse, he credited the Queensberry boxer for being better on the night, but took solace from the fact that upon reflection, he was able to diagnose what went wrong.

The BUI Celtic and Irish title winner also assured he’d come back stronger and prove he is a top-end operator.

“I didn’t perform to the standard I hold myself too, I rushed my work, got caught with a big shot and paid the price. Congratulations to Steven Cairns he was the better man on the night,” he said online.

“I’ve taken some time to reflect back on the fight and the camp in the weeks leading up to it, and I’m excited to get back into the ring now and prove that I deserve to be there.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who came to support me. All my friends family fans and sponsors I wouldn’t be in the this position without you’s and for that I will be forever grateful. Your continued support has kept me going through some of the toughest times.”
