Dean O’Brien drove CIE Ranch into the second round of the Daily Mail FAI Cup in dramatic fashion on Saturday night.

The all amateur cup derby brilliantly labelled ‘El Traffico’ was more traffic jam than free flowing for the most part and looked likely to end scoreless after 90 minutes.

However, O’Brien produced one moment of brilliance in injury time, finding the top corner with a left footed effort from outside the area to make it next stop round 2 for CIE Ranch.

Considering they play in LSL Senior 1A a division below second tier outfit Dublin Bus, The Ranch were deemed underdogs going into the clash.

However, the visitors had the better of the chances early on. Lee O’Sullivan and O’Brien had chances before 7 minutes had passed.

Paul McMahon forced Sean Brazil into a brilliant save on 17 minutes as Paul Doyle’s charges ensured it wasn’t all one way traffic.

However, the visitors continued to create the better chances and O’Sullivan hit the bar before the turn.

The second half was more fight than flair and there was little in the way of clear cut chances, but with three minutes of extra time past O’Brien produced the game defining moment to ensure his side are in the hat for Monday’s second round draw.

Dublin Bus: Kelly; Mahon, S. Byrne, Brazil, O’Dwyer; McMahon (Gleeson, 77), Doyle, O’Callaghan (Sibanda, 63), Maher; D. Byrne, Bisset.
