McClean finds new team, Irish International supports McCullagh in Belfast

He might be looking for a new football club after being relegated with West Brom last season, but James McClean found a new team of a different kind last night.

The pro footballer has looked at home in a sparring ring but got a little taste of a pro ring last night.

The all action winger was in Belfast to support fellow Derry man Tyrone McCullagh in his bid to win boxing silverware for the first time.

McClean and Paddy Barnes accompanied Team ‘White Chocolate’ to the ring ahead of the Foylesider’s fight with Joe Ham.

Despite visiting the canvas at the tail end of the third round the 27-year-old easily won what was meant to be a 50/50 fight to pick up the BBBofC Celtic super bantamweight title that once decorated Carl Frampton’s waist.

The win moves the Derry favourite a step closer to a British title fight and McClean was in the ring post the win to help his fellow sporting county man celebrate.

The Irish footballing favourite took time to thank McCullagh for the experience post the big TV win.
