World champ misses weight for Katie Taylor fight

Katie Taylor successfully weighed-in in Cardiff this morning – but her opponent and reigning champion did not.

The Bray lightweight takes on Argentina’s Anahi Esther Sanchez for the WBA title at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, live on Sky Box Office as part of the undercard to Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title defence against Carlos Takam.

The pair weighed in ahead of their fight this afternoon at the Motorpoint Arena, aiming to come within the 135lbs (9st 9lbs/61.24kg) limit – however this did not happen.

Taylor tipped the scales at 134.5lbs (9st 8.5lbs/61.01kg) for the fourth consecutive fight.

The champion then surprisingly came in 136lbs (9st 10lbs/61.69kg), above the limit and now has two hours to shed the excess weight.

If the former IBF super featherweight champion can not make make weight, and all parties agree for the fight to still go ahead, Sanchez would be stripped and the title would be on the line for Taylor alone.
