Witter predicts fireworks on Irish debut

Hennessy Sports Press Release

Junior Witter returns to the ring at the King’s Hall in Belfast on September 17 promising to give the Irish fans a sample of the class which lead him to the world title back in 2006.

The former WBC World light-welterweight champion says he is now much stronger at welterweight and is ready to use a win over Irishman Stephen Haughian on the supporting bill to British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s battle with North American champion Nicolai Firtha as a springboard towards a European and a World title shot.

The 12 round International contest between Tyson Fury and Nicolai Firtha will be shown live on Channel 5.

Witter said: “I know that I can be a world champion again but of course I have to show people that I’ve still got it and I will do that at the King’s Hall which is a great place to be boxing in.”

“I feel a lot stronger at this weight and I have no doubt that I can win the European title and then have some very big fights.”

“Haughian is going to give it everything, he’ll be there to give it the fight of his life and I have to be ready for that but I just think I’ll be too much for him.”

“The European title would be the obvious target after this fight but whatever happens I want to get into a title fight. I know I still have a lot to give, I’m still hitting very hard and I know I can get back into the world title scene.”

“I’ve been working very hard in the gym with Dominic and John Ingle, working on a few moves so I feel great.”

Also on the Belfast show is Ryan Greene and Willie Thompson who will be fighting it out for the vacant Northern Ireland Light Middleweight title, Kid Galahad, Phill Fury, Tommy Tolan, Joe Hillerby, Phil Townley, Dee Walsh, Gerard Healy and Michael McLaughlin.
