Two Irish boxers will fight to guarantee bronze this afternoon in Romania at the European U22 Championships.
Mayo light flyweight Shannon Sweeney and Louth lightweight Amy Broadhurst are both in quarter-final action in Targu Jiu.
Both fighters are in Ring A on Day 4 of proceedings.
First up is Sweeney at around 1:00pm (Irish time). The recent Elite Senior champion takes on Bulgarian wonderkid Mari-Emi Todorova, a two time European Youth gold medalist and a European Junior gold and silver medalist. Todorova defeated Belfast’s Caitlin Fryers in the final of her most recent continental triumph.
Broadhurst then meets a famliar foe in Turkey’s Esra Yildiz at about 2:15pm. Broadhurst fought the Turk in the quarter finals of the 2014 European Youths, winning a 17-12 decision.
