The Coalisland middleweight took on experienced German Ronny Mittag [29(14)-2(0)-1] and was adjudged to have lost via split decision.
Two judges scored the ten-round bout 96:94 favour of Mittag, with the remaining judge giving the same score in favour of Cummings.
It’s fair to say that most onlookers disagreed with the result, feeling that the Tyrone man clearly won what was a competitive contest, and 97:93 Cummings seems to be the consensus score currently circulating.
Upon rewatching the bout, and scoring it very harshly on the Irishman, we could perhaps see how a 95:95 draw could be weakly argued, but a win for Mittag is hard to explain.
The final result will be disappointing for Cummings, who had actually had a career-best performance in the bout, but not a career-best win.
