Frank Buglioni was always going to be up against it when he took on Fedor Chudinov for the WBA super middleweight title. As most had predicted, Chudinov scored a fairly comprehensive win, however Buglioni’s immensly brave performance will have won him many new fans to add to his vociferous legions of supporters.
While the accurate, economical, clinical Russian out-landed the London-born, Dublin-trained fighter, one of the fight’s main talking points centred around a shot landed by ‘The Wise Guy.’ In the closing stages of the sixth stanza Buglioni landed a bomb on the Russian’s chin, and had the champion in trouble as he poured forward. As the Celtic Warriors fighter unloaded on Chudinov the bell rang and Buglioni landed a shot flush on the chin, flooring the Russian.
While the bell had rang, Buglioni was in the process of throwing a volley of shots and was perhaps deafened by the electric atmosphere created by his fans. Referee Terry O’Connor however was unsympathetic, and docked the Enfield man two points.
