Two fights for Taylor this weekend

Olympic champion Katie Taylor will have her first two competitive fights of the year in Munster this weekend.

The Bray orthodox meets Serbian lightweight Jelina Jelic on a Kanturk BC hosted show at the Macroom GAA Complex on Friday night.

The four-rounder headlines a 15-bout card on Leeside.

Twenty four hours later, Taylor faces a familiar foe in Queen Underwood of the USA at the Mount Brandon Hotel in Tralee, Kerry.

Taylor has beaten Underwood three times since 2009.

The first victory was a 30-3 decision under the old computer scoring system in an Ireland versus USA match at Dublin’s National Stadium on February 27, 2009.

Taylor stopped the Seattle fighter in the second round under the 15-point rule on a St Michael’s Athy BC hosted Ireland v USA meeting in Kildare a few days later.

She also beat Underwood en route to gold in the semi-finals of the World Women’s Elite Championships in Barbados in 2010.

Tickets are priced at €20 for adults and €10 for children in Cork. Tickets for two adults and two children are priced at €50.
