Tough opponent named for Noely Murphy’s next fight
Cork welterweight Noely Murphy [9(2)-0] returns to the ring next week and looks set to face his toughest opponent yet.
The 22 year old fights at the Paramount Theatre at Long Island University in Brooklyn next Thursday (May 18th).
Here the New York-based Rebel will take on LA fighter Brian Jones [14(8)-7(1)] over eight rounds.
The California’s only stoppage defeat came earlier this year, on a card which also featured Murphy. This fight came on the undercard Badou Jack v James DeGale super middleweight unification, and Jones was stopped here in the sixth round by former world title challenger Thomas Dulorme.
The West Coast fighter has gone the distance with prospects Jonathan Alonso and Anthony Flores, as well as challenging for the California State welterweight title last year.
It’s a second successive eight rounder for the Lou DiBella-promoted Murphy. In his last bout, his Irish debut, the Macroom youngster claimed the BUI Celtic title with a points win over Galician Avelino Vazquez in front of a large travelling support.
