Title fight disappointment for ‘pissed off’ Jay Byrne

Jay Byrne has lost out on the chance to become the first ever BUI and BBBofC Celtic champion.

‘The Negotiator’ was set to fight Marc Kerr for the light middleweight British Boxing Board of Control version of the strap in Glasgow on September 14.

Victory would have seen a fighter, that lost on points in Irish light middleweight and BUI Celtic light middleweight fights, add the BBBofC light middleweight crown to the BUI welterweight Celtic title he won thanks to victory over Gerrard ‘Crank’ Whitehouse.

However the  the bout has been cancelled after the Scot pulled out injured.

Byrne frustration will be further flamed by the fact he had turned down a number of opportunities to focus on trying to win a title that could open doors.

Speaking online today the manager and puncher explained,

“So after getting the worst news a fighter wants to hear a week before a fight !!! opponent has pulled out injured. A fight I was 100% confident of doing the business in and bringing home the BBBOC Celtic title. To say I’m pissed of is an understatement as everything was pinpoint in camp.

“To all the people who booked flights and time of work I’m so sorry this has happened and if I can somehow fight on the show still I will.”
