Tasty Tennyson has KO triumph on Belfast dinner show

James Tennyson was in stellar form tonight on the ‘Champions at the Europa’ show, destroying Georgia’s George Gachechiladze inside two rounds. The Belfast featherweight put on a knockout performance of a quality comparable to the caviar found in his Black Sea opponent’s home country.

The Kronk fighter was up against a tough gatekeeper in Gachechiladze, who has shared the ring with the likes of Kiko Martínez and Willie Casey, but the BBBoC Celtic champion was a class above on the swanky dinner show.

It was a cagey start, with the Georgian content to spoil, perhaps aware of Tennyson’s fearsome reputation.

The second round however was a completely different affair, a succession of uppercuts had Gachechiladze in trouble and Tennyson eventually put him down with a big right. The game journeyman rose to his feet but Tennyson finished the fight immediately with a massive left hook to the body that left the Georgian writhing in agony on the canvas.

With the explosive win, Tennyson improves his record to 14(11)-1(1), while the game Gachechiladze drops to 18(11)-21(12)-1.

The 22 year old will now set his sights on his upcoming British title final eliminator with Scotland’s Darren Traynor.
