Rewatch Frampton score a knockout over Ukraine

Northern Ireland take on Ukraine today and the Green and White Army can take inspiration from a performance from one of their most famous sons.

On the 18th of September Carl Frampton took a step up into the big leagues with his first headline performance.

In what was just his eighth fight, ‘The Jackal’ topped the bill at the Ulster Hall, and the unfortunate man across the ring from him that night was a Ukrainian. The Tiger’s Bay fighter took on three-time European title challenger Yuriy Voronin, and showed no signs of stage fright.

Voronin, who Scott Quigg fought in his sixteenth fight, was blasted out inside three rounds in front of a raucous crowd that included Hollywood legend Daniel Day Lewis.

The win, and the support, validated McGuigan’s beliefs that Frampton was the next big thing in Irish boxing and the Belfast man’s career would go from strength to strength, with Celtic, Commonwealth, European, and World titles all later strapped around his waist.

Relive the pivotal moment in Frampton’s career below:

Good luck to Northern Ireland today in Lyon.
