Phil Sutcliffe Jr secures fight with big British prospect

Dublin light welterweight Phil Sutcliffe Jr [12(7)-1(0)] has been handed another notable fight with a big British name.

Frank Warren this afternoon that the Dubliner will face Middlesbrough fighter Josh Leather [11(5)-0] on the Josh Warrington undercard at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday May 13th.

The clash will be for the IBF Inter-Continental title and will grant the winner a world ranking with the organisation whose current champion is Namibian Julius Indongo – who himself seeks to unify with WBA champ Ricky Burns on April 15th in Glasgow.

The bout is dependent on Sutcliffe first coming through his fight at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on February 18th unscathed.

The Crumlin puncher scored a career-best win in his most recent fight, outpointing two-time British title challenger and Prizefighter champion Chris Jenkins over 10 rounds.

Leather, promoted by Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, was the 2013 ABA champion and captain of the England team, but the 25 year old has been relatively untested as a pro thus far.

The bout will be shown live on both BT Sports and Boxnation.
