Ormond: I would love to fight Crolla on Frampton-Quigg card
Stephen Ormond hopes the rumours are true.
Talk last week suggested there is a strong possibility that ‘The Rock’ was being lined up as a first defence for Anthony Crolla on the undercard of the massive Carl Frampton versus Scott Quigg World title fight on February 27th.
Providing the Manchester claims victory in his rematch with Darleys Perez on November 21st and takes the WBA World lightweight title, a clash with the Dubliner will play out according to the rumour mill.
Ormond read the reports, and although he stressed it was all talk, he did claim Crolla in February would be more than welcome.
“I would love a fight with Crolla. I think it would be a great fight and it would generate a lot of attention,” The Celtic Warrior Gym puncher told IFL TV.
“He is a lovely guy and I believe he will win (his World title rematch). I would love that fight in February it would be a great fight. There were rumours out there and talk about the fight in February. It is all talk and rumour, but I would love that fight. But listen I would fight any of the lightweights in the UK. I am here and I am ready its a great division.”
Ormond was speaking in London as Gary O’Sullivan and Chris Eubank Jr met in person for the first time ahead of their December 12 clash. It was a chance to talk to Crolla’s promoter Hearn about the clash.
Regardless, with Murphy’s Boxing backing the Dub and their links with Al Haymon, big things seem on the horizion and increased activity means he is best place to take advantage of the opportunities.
“I have been busy the last few months and I have had two fights back to back just weeks apart. Keeping active like that brings the best out of me. Second guy was a good Puerto Rican with a few knockouts, but I felt good and I just broke him down and I got a fourth round KO.”
