New Pro – John Cooney to debut in Spain this month

John Cooney will make his professional debut in Spain later this month.

The debutant has been confirmed on a show that already has Waterford’s Dylan Moran on the roster.

Cooney will punch for pay over four rounds and for the first time on November 21 at the Onguardamar Arena in Alicante.

The latest addition to the Irish pro circuit may not be know to the Irish fight fan.

All is amateur career played out in England, but he is currently residing in Galway and is the son of Irish parents.

Cooney has spent a lot of time in O’Rourke’s Gym and has by all accounts impressed in Inchicore.

As an amateur he won five national titles at various levels and age groups and is an ABA and NABC semi finalist.

An opponent has yet to be confirmed for the Steven O’Rourke trained fighter.

He is expected to debut at super featherweight and compete over four rounds.
