New fight date for Anto Cacace

A second fight date of 2016 has been confirmed for Belfast super feather Anto Cacace [14(7)-0].

The Andersonstown fighter has been added to the undercard of the Steve Wood show at the Victoria Warehouse on Saturday night (November 19th). The bill is topped by ‘The Apache’s’ stablemate Tommy McCarthy who takes on English champion Matty Askin in a British cruiserweight title final eliminator.

It has so far been a year of transition for BBBoC Celtic champ Cacace who has swapped trainer and promoter from Shane McGuigan and Cyclone to Brian Magee and Pat Magee respectively.

It had seemed that the 27 year old had secured a fight with British champion Martin J Ward, taking the mandatory challenger’s spot by default due to the withdrawal of George Jupp. However, an oversight by the British Boxing Board of Control saw the installation of Maxi Hughes as mandatory challenger – as the Englishman had previously stepped aside to allow the September title fight between Ward and Andy Townend.

This came to light during the past week and, with a British title fight not looking likely for Cacace until well into next year, the disillusioned Irishman is considering alternate routes.

First however the southpaw will keep busy next weekend against a to-be-confirmed opponent as he adjusts under Magee and regains his sharpness.
