A third statue to commemorate Belfast boxers is to be unveiled next month.

The five year long project led by Belfast Boxing Ring and supported by the city council has already seen statues of Rinty Monaghan at the Cathedral Gardens and John Caldwell at Dunville Park.

Now, on Saturday 22nd in Woodvale Park at 11.30am, a special third statue will be unveiled. Rather than focus on one fighter, it will instead celebrate all the great fighters who have came from the Greater Shankill Area.

These include the likes of Olympic silver medalist and professional World champion Wayne McCullough, Commonwealth gold medalist and British champion Davy Lamour, World Championships bronze medalist Stephen Kirk, the Warnock Brothers, Northern Irish champ Tommy Armour, British champion Tommy Waite, Irish champion Marco McCullough and many more.

The unveiling, led by Lord Mayor Brian Kingston, is an event which is open to the public and all Irish boxing fans are encouraged to attend.
