Nevin impresses in debut win in Boston

JOHN Joe Nevin made a successful start to pro life in Boston on St Patrick’s Day.

The Olympic silver medallist registered a unanimous points decision, out scoring Puerto Rico’s Alberto Candelaria in the House of Blues on a card co promoted by the Drop Kick Murphys.

The Mullingar Shuffler registered a 59-55 victory in his first paid outing. Fighting at super featherweight, Nevin dominated the early rounds and his superior class was apparent. Candelaria went on the offensive over the final two rounds and tested the former amatuer standouts chin late on, but Nevin withstood the pressure and finished the sixth like he started the fight and registered an impressive debut win.
