Nevin: I am done with all the nonsense and I’m ready to become World champion

John Joe Nevin plans to put himself in World title pole by the end of 2016.

One of Ireland’s greatest ever amateurs has endured a stop start beginning to pro life, with a well publicised double leg break stalling his progress.

The London 2012 silver medal winner has also suggested he wasn’t living the life during that period, but is adamant he is now fully focused, fitter than ever and ready to turn potential into prizes over the coming years.

Speaking to The Sun the Philadelphia based Mullingar native said:

“I feel fantastic at the moment and I think I’m even fitter now than I was when I won the silver medal at the Olympics.

“I would like to build up my rounds more and get my rankings up in 2016.

“I hope to be sitting here this time next year talking about a world title shot — this is the plan moving forward.

Nevin is also has aspirations of fighting in Ireland in 2016.

“I hope to stay injury-free and am also trying to arrange a fight in Ireland in February so it will be a busy start of the year for me.

“I would also love to fight in my hometown in the summer just so I can give something back.

“I’m with two of the best men in the business now, Tom Moran and Cameron Duncan, and they have managed 30 world champions so fingers crossed.

“I’m fully recovered from my leg break and I know I was caught up in a lot of nonsense but I’m done with that.”
