National Elite Senior Championships – Day 1 RESULTS

The National Elite Senior Championships kicked off with a bang this evening in Dublin.

In total, 13 quarter-finals were decided at headquarters.

In a rematch of the 2016 final, super heavyweight Dean Gardiner defeated Thomas Carty, while there was also a win for reigning champion Martin Keenan.

At lightweight Frankie Cleary overcame Sean Duffy in a competitive contest while defending champion Pat Mongan got up and running with a win over Dylan Duffy.

Welterweight saw Michael Hennessy defeated by Eugene McKeever, however there was a sizeable portion of those in attendance that disagreed strongly with the verdict. Making his debut in the tournament, Kieran Molloy impressed in beating Fergal Redmond.

The opening bout of the evening had Evan Metcalfe triumping over Adam Courtney in a fiery Dublin derby and Christian Cekiso had a big win over Tommy Casey.
