He didn’t quite attract as big of a Stateside TV audience as Carl Frampton but Tyson Fury’s dethroning of long reigning heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko was viewed by over 1 million Americans.

HBO televised the World title fight on Saturday afternoon from Dusseldorf, Germany and Fury’s unanimous decision drew an average of 1.038 million viewers for the live airing.

Such figures are made more impressive by the fact Klitschko has generally prompted Americans to consult their remotes and change channel.

The fight proved to be HBO’s 10th-most viewed fight of the year and also exceeded Klitschko’s previous live afternoon fight on HBO, when he drew an average of 620,000 viewers for his title defense against Kubrat Pulev.
