MEDAL ALERT: Christina Desmond makes Irish boxing history at World Universities
Christina Desmond this morning made history after becoming the first ever Irish boxer to win a medal at the World University Championships.
The Cork middleweight won her quarter final at the seventh edition of the championships in Thailand to guarantee at least bronze.
The Fr Horgan’s star comprehensively defeated experienced Kazakh fighter Zura Kussainova to book her place in the semi finals.
Desmond is representing Limerick Institute of Technology at the ongoing championships in Chaing Mai.
It is a first major senior international medal fro the Rebelette who has won World silver and EU bronze at Youth level.
Desmond is now back in action looking to upgrade the colour of her medal on Thursday against Poland’s Natalia Hollinska.
