Mick Conlan looks set to have what will be arguably the biggest debut in Irish boxing history.

The Belfast star revealed tonight that he has inked a promotional contract with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions as he looks to begin an assault on a professional World title.

This journey looks set to begin next year on a special date and in a special venue. ESPN’s Dan Rafael described how the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist is “slated to make his pro debut in March on St. Patrick’s Day weekend at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.”

While Rafael states that Conlan will box mainly Stateside, the 24 year old will still feature on this side of the Atlantic, benefiting from his managerial links to Macklin’s Gym Marbella.

With his debut being perhaps six months away, and with Conlan possessing a wealth of five-round WSB experience, it is hoped that he will be able to be moved quickly in the pro ranks, starting on March 17th or 18th, live on Showtime.
