IRISH middleweight Matthew Macklin and Crok based Cuban heavyweight Mike Perez scheduled May 24 bouts have been shelved after an injury to Perez resulted in the whole bill being cancelled.
‘Mack The Knife’ was due to face former World champion Daniel Geale live on HBO hoping to put in a performance and secure a win that would have put him back in the World title frame.
If ‘The Rebel’ Perez would have won his top of the bill bout with Bryant Jennings he would have secured a heavyweight world title shot.
However, a shoulder injury to Perez means the whole show has been cancelled. Some might argue Macklin versus Geale was a top of the bill fight in itself, but all involved have elected to pull the plug rather than rearrange.
No announcement has been made on whether Macklin’s encounter with Geale or Perez’s showdown with Jennings will be rearranged for a later date.
