Lindsay linked with Simpson

10 September 2009 – By Cormac Campbell

British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay looks set to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire with a winter clash against Commonwealth titleholder John Simpson.

The unbeaten Belfast box-puncher claimed the Lonsdale belt with a stunning stoppage victory over the much-hyped Paul Appleby at the Ulster Hall in April.

After collapse of Setanta Sports in the summer, the Mac Mans career had been placed in limbo. However, the British Boxing Board of Control has called for purse bids to be submitted for a mouth-watering showdown between Lindsay and Simpson by October 14, with the contest to take place by the end of January 2010.

Should the bout come to fruition, Lindsay could secure some useful inside information on Simpson from Belfast native Carl Frampton, who recently sparred with the Scot.
