Leo didn’t lose says Jose Santa Cruz, demands immediate rematch

Leo Santa Cruz’s trainer and father, Jose, has expressed his disagreement with the result of his son’s failed WBA featherweight title defence against Carl Frampton.

Santa Cruz was defeated by the Belfast man in New York on Saturday, and Santa Cruz Snr wants an rematch immediate rematch.

The elder Santa Cruz told ESPN Deportes that “I’ll tell you this – I did not see my son lose. If I had seen him lose I would have said it, so we want a rematch.”

Explaining why he felt his son was the victor, Santa Cruz argued that “I think the judges should have rewarded the most offensive fighter.”

“If Frampton connected with two, then my son landed three. ”

“A lot of people have told me that they saw Leo win.”

Santa Cruz now wants to enforce an immediate rematch, in a more pro-Santa Cruz location, and revealed that “my son spoke with Mr. Al Haymon at the end of the event and he said that there is a rematch clause.”

“If course we want the direct rematch, but now we could do it in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, in about three more months in November.”

“I do not like making excuses, maybe they did beat us but I’m positive that Leo will have the title back.”
