Kelly Harrington secures super SILVER at World Championships
Kelly Harrington has guaranteed Ireland a sensational silver medal at the AIBA World Women’s Elite Championships in New Delhi.
The Dublin lightweight beat Kazakh youngster Karina Ibragimova in the semis in the Indian capital this afternoon to secure, at least, a second successive second place finish at this level.
Harrington beat Canada’s Caroline Veyre on Tuesday to guarntee a podium finish and is now just nine minutes from gold following a controlled outboxing of Ibragimova.
A cagey encounter, the St Mary’s stylist was the better-quality fighter throughout, landing smart counters to take every round on every card to seal her passage to the final.
Harrington will face Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee in the gold medal decider.
