Joe Rea aiming for upset live on Australia television

Joe Rea has been given the opportunity to turn a few heads later this month.

The Ballymena bruiser, who has relocated Down Under in recent years, will fight live on Australian television on Friday June 24th.

‘Síucra’ Joe [10(4)-28(12)-5] has been drafted in as an opponent for former Aussie champ Tommy Browne [30(11)-6(2)-1] on the undercard of Daniel Geale’s comeback in Sydney.

However, 32 year old Rea is not coming to lie down and take a pay day, and believes that he can cause an upset on the Fox Sports show.

Indeed Rea should have a size and strength advantage come fight-night. The Antrim banger has campaigned at super middleweight in recent times, but will boil down to light middleweight for the clash. In addition, ‘The Titan’ Browne is not a natural 154lb fighter, having spent the early part of his career as far down as featherweight (where he won the Australian tile), before moving up following a five year hiatus.

On the fight, an excited Rea noted that it’s “great to show my talent in front of this great country Australia.”

“Last time I fought live here on television I got robbed, I hope the judges will be fair with me this time.”
