James Tennyson to face former English champion on Sky Sports Belfast bill
An opponent has been confirmed for James Tennyson‘s prominent appearance on the Sky Sports show in Belfast next weekend.
The Irish super featherweight champion features on the ‘Belfast Boy’ undercard at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday June 10th and will face England’s Ben Jones on the Ryan Burnett v Lee Haskins-topped bill.
‘Duracell’ Jones [22(10)-6(2)-1] is a former English super featherweight champion and lost a narrow split decision to Jason Cunningham for the Commonwealth featherweight title last time out. In addition to this he has also held the WBO European and Inter-Continental rankings titles.
A pro over ten years, Jones has faced a number of notable names. In the win column he holds results over Kris Hughes, Martin Parlagi, Floyd Moore, and Jamie Speight. Jones has also been defeated by the likes of IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, Matchroom’s Stephen Smith, and European champion Juli Giner.
It is a second successive big fight for Poleglass puncher Tennyson [18(14)-2(2)] who won the Irish title last time out, stopping Declan Geraghty in the sixth round of their clash in March.
Scheduled for twelve rounds, the title/eliminator status of this bout is still to be officially confirmed
Aside from Tennyson, the undercard at present comprises of an Irish cruiserweight title fight between Luke Watkins and Ian Tims, Mike Perez v Tommy McCarthy, and appearances from Carl McDonald, Sean Magee, Feargal McCrory, Matt Wilton, Tyrone McCullagh, Paul Hyland Jr, Padraig McCrory, and Paddy Gallagher.
Tickets for ‘Belfast Boy’ on June 10th at the SSE Odyssey Arena cost £30, £40, £60, £100, and £150 (VIP), and can be bought from the boxers involved or HERE.
