Irish Boxers meet the president on International Women’s Day

Anna Moore, Michaela Walsh, Lauren Hogan and Amy Broadhurst represented Irish boxing at today’s reception by President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina to mark International Women’s Day at Áras an Uachtaráin.

Over 100 Irish sportswomen competing domestically and internationally in athletics, basketball, boxing, cricket, Gaelic football, hockey, hurling, golf, rugby, sailing and tennis attended.

Anna Moore said that it was an honour to be invited to Aras and Uachtaráin.

“The President and his wife have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome and it is a fantastic day for Irish sportswomen in all sports,” she said.

“The President’s wife was delighted to meet Lauren as Lauren’s great aunt was a friend of hers. It really is a great honour to be here today and to be invited. The boxing team has mingled with many of the teams from other sports and it is a wonderful day,” added Anna Moore, who has worked as I
