Ireland get off to great start on Day 1 of European Junior Championships

Ireland made a strong start at the European Junior Championships in Albena, Bulgaria today.

Eight fighters were in Round of 32 action, with six having their hand raised in victory.

Jude Gallagher, Dean Clancy, Brandon McCarthy, Mikey Stokes, Peter Vrinceanu, and Jake Tucker joined the five Irish boxers who received byes to the Last 16.

However there was disappointment for Cathal Crowley and last year’s European Schoolboys champion William Hayden who bowed out.

At 5:45 vice captain Jake Tucker fights Gyula Varga then in the following, final, fight it is Cathal Crowley versus Russian Alexsei Dronov.
