Home Farm welcome champions Cork to Whitehall, Inchicore Athletic take on their famous neighbours Patrick’s Athletic, Blarney will try and upset Derry, FAI Junior Cup champions North End United take on Galway and Skerries test themselves against Waterford United.

Some amateur big guns are missing, but there remains plenty of eye catching FAI Senior Cup first round clashes for the amateur fan to indulge in this weekend.

Fingers will be crossed for some big upsets while the more realistic will be hoping for some solid performances and a goal or two to celebrate.

The non league versus LOI clashes provide a massive chance for amateur players to write themselves into the history of the prestigious cup contest.

There is a ‘dreams are made of’ element to what is Irish football’s FA Cup third round equivalent.

However, despite a host of little fish big fish clashes it’s an all amateur tie that has captured the imagination this weekend.

Saturday’s Dublin Bus versus CIE Ranch first round class is developing something of a cult following on line.

At first, even second or third glance it seems one of the least attractive clashes for the neutral to get excited about.

It’s a LSL second tier side taking on a team that play a division below them. Granted their is some excitement surrounding The Bus after Paul Doyle took charge and the sides are only separated by the length of the Ballyfermott road, but even Ranch manager Keith Cronin admits he would have preferred LOI opposition.

Yet with everything branding and marketing are essential and the renaming of what is an transport derby has created interest in the clash.

You’ve heard of El Clásico, the Madonnina, The Merseyside Derby, Der Klassiker and so one, but this Saturday will see ‘El Traffico’ play out at the Coldcut.

Jokes about leap cards being used as tickets and two buses coming at once have been doing the rounds since the draw, but it’s the renaming of the derby that has caught the attention leaving a host of football fans eager to know who will reach destination round 2.
