Connacht cruiser Gary Sweeney [2(2)-0] won’t have long to wait to get over the disappointment of missing out on a slot on the MHD Promotions show at the Europa Hotel in Belfast this Saturday.

‘The Gallant’ was due to make his Irish debut on the Paul Hyland-headlined card, but was forced to withdraw due to a minor injury suffered in training.

Sweeney will now instead box at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on the Belfast Boxnation show in November 5th.

Sweeney was this evening confirmed to be joining Steven Ward, Lewis Crocker, Marco McCullough, Sean Turner, and Con Sheehan on the Jamie Conlan-topped bill which also features a fascinating clash between Tyrone McKenna and Sean Creagh.

On the news, Sweeney commented how “I’ve not had the opportunity to box in front of an Irish crowd before, so this one will give me an added incentive and spur me on throughout my training camp.”

“I enjoy boxing in front of the cameras and with BoxNation providing live coverage I’m looking to make a real statement.”

MGM added that “we are extremely pleased to add Gary to the Belfast event. He has made a great start to his career and we look forward to seeing that progression continue on November 5th.”
