Frampton: Gonzalez is in for a major shock-this is step one to conquering USA

ALEJANDRO Gonzalez will be step one on a journey that will see Carl Frampton become a household boxing name around the World, suggests ‘The Jackal’ himself.

The IBF super bantamweight World champion is already a massive star in Ireland and Britain and is keen to crack America and he believes victory over the Mexican challenger on July 18 will go along way to capturing the attention of American fight fans.

Undefeated Frampton will defend his title against the fighters, whose father Alejandro Gonzalez Sr famously dethroned WBC Featherweight Champion Kevin Kelley in 1995,  at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, USA.

Frampton vs Gonzalez Jr. will be the main event on this CBS broadcast as part of the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series that will go out live coast to coast in the USA and should draw in millions of TV viewers across the States.

The Cyclone Promotions puncher, whose manager Barry McGuigan was a super featherweight champion of the World, is excited about chance to recruit more followers to ‘The Jackal Army’ and is confident of victory.

Indeed, the Belfast man claims Gonzalez is in for a major shock come July 18.

“I am delighted to be defending my title in the USA on July 18th live on CBS against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. I want to become a star in the USA and this is my first step on that journey,” said Frampton.

“Now that my team is working with Al Haymon I am set to defend my title in front of millions of US fight fans on CBS. Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. is a dangerous Mexican challenger but he has never fought anyone like me and on the 18th of July he is in for a big, big shock. I feel I am the best Super Bantamweight in the world and I am excited to box in front of a huge television audience in the USA.”
