Florida fight frustration for Connor Coyle and John Cooley as upcoming date cancelled

Derry fighters Connor Coyle [4(1)-0] and John Cooley [2(0)-0] will have to wait until they step into the ring for the fifth time and third times.

The Florida-based fighters were due to box on Friday May 12th at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, with Coyle set to fly out to the Sunshine State today to join Cooley and resume camp with trainer Jim McLoughlin.

However the card, which was set to be headlined by the comeback of former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy [27(18)-6(3)], has been unfortunately cancelled.

Light middleweight Coyle was set to make the step up to six rounds on the bill, while super bantam Cooley was to continue his pro development on the card.

Coyle is remaining positive, and notes how it is a mere minor delay and that he will be back in the ring Stateside in June or July.

Since turning pro last Autumn, the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist has impressed on both sides of the Atlantic with two wins in both Tampa and Dublin.

Cooley debuted during the Summer before a period out of the ring. He returned alongside former St Joseph’s clubmate Coyle on a St Patrick’s Day bill in Florida, overcoming a knockdown to grind out a points win.
