Fitzgerald backs Bellew to win big fight this weekend

Nathan Cleverly is odds on favourite to defeat Tony Bellew and retain his world title in Liverpool this Saturday, but the Irish fighter with the inside track is backing the challenger to cause a major upset.

Welsh WBO light heavyweight champ Cleverly has been tipped by pundits and punters alike to win the grudge match, but after spending a week sparring Bellew in Spain Anthony Fitzgerald is tipping the controversial Liverpudlian to win.

Indeed the WBA world number 10 middleweight thinks Bellew will end what could turn out to be an ill tempered affair in the latter rounds.

The EBA middleweight champ revealed the challenger is in great shape and believes he has added further strings to his bow, strings that will help him send a piercing arrow through Cheverly’s short reign.

The champion is clever by name and nature and the university graduate will certainly have done his Bellew homework. However ‘The Pride’ believes Bellew could surprise a few people with his tactics and as a result register a win.

“I believe Tony will win. He is in great shape and he has had a great camp,” Fitzgerald told www.irish-boxing.com.

“I sparred him a lot over the last week and I was impressed. He is a much better boxer than he gets credit for. He really seems to have tightened up and he can mix it if needs be. I think we might see a new side to him on Saturday. I think he will box a good bit. I reckon he will out box Cleverly early on and then stop him in the latter rounds.”
