Fagan: I want to impress against Yates and secure a shot at one of Matchroom’s top lightweights

40 year old Oisin Fagan has followed the lead of a number of Irish prospects and said he wants a big fight if he impresses on the Return Of The Mack card this weekend.

Gael Force has taken a short notice four round fight and opens the show against MGM prospect Kofai Yates. The former Irish champion comes in as an ‘opponent’, but has declared his intention to cause and upset.

Indeed Fagan hopes to impress enough to secure a shot at one of Matchroom’s big names and end his career with a major upset when they return to Dublin in the Spring.

“If I beat Yates and am impressive in doing so, I would love to take on one of the big Matchroom fighters- like Ricky Burns, Kevin Mitchell or Anthony Crolla, who are all on my radar. To be fair, I’ve fought in better than those guys in the past, but I would love the chance to pull off a big upset at the end of my career,” Fagan told Irish-boxing.com before expressing his delight at being on the Matthew Macklin undercard.

“It’s great to be back on a big show. And although I’ve been taken in as an ‘opponent’; and expected, just to go through the motions; that’s the furthest thing from my mind So, as always, I will be prepared for war and hope that the result won’t be ‘presumed’, before the fight has actually begun.”
